Getting started
Setting up Koa, your baby’s profile and the basics
What is Koa?
Koa is a baby tracker for the whole family. You log the things that matter (feeds, sleep, diapers, growth, medicine, milestones and medical records) and Koa turns them into simple charts, patterns and gentle guidance.
When you are online, your logs sync with the people you invite, so everyone can see the latest care in one place. Entries made offline sync when your connection returns.
I just installed Koa. Where do I start?
Add your baby’s name and date of birth, then log one thing. A feed or a sleep is easiest. The Home tab shows your running timers and what happened most recently.
Once you have a day or two of logs, Timeline → Reports starts showing patterns. There’s nothing else you need to configure first.
Can I track more than one child?
Yes. Open More, tap your baby’s name to open Children, then tap the + circle. Switch between children from the header on the Home tab. Twins, siblings and fostered children all work the same way.
Every plan includes up to 10 baby profiles. Please contact app support if you need more.
My baby was premature. Does Koa account for that?
Yes. Turn on "Born prematurely" and set the weeks early during setup, or later by opening More, tapping your baby’s name and choosing their profile.
The Growth Tracker then plots and scores every measurement at your baby’s corrected age, so the centiles and any "outside the typical range" note compare them with babies of the same corrected age rather than the same birthday. Measurements taken before the due date are shown on the chart but left without a centile, because the reference curves start at the due date.
Tracking & logging
Feeds, sleep, diapers, growth, medicine and milestones
What can I track in Koa?
Feeding (breast, bottle and solids), sleep, diapers, pumping, activity, growth, temperature, medicine and health symptoms. There’s also a Medical hub for immunizations, allergies, doctor visits and ongoing health notes, plus a Milestones section with photos.
How do timers work?
Start a feed, sleep or pumping timer from the Home tab and it keeps running in the background. You can close the app, and it will still be counting when you come back.
If you forget to stop a timer, open the entry and edit the end time. Nothing is locked after saving.
I forgot to log something. Can I add it later?
Yes. Open any tracker and change the time and date before saving. You can backdate an entry as far as you need.
To fix something already saved, tap it in the Timeline tab and edit or delete it there.
Can I log without touching my phone?
On iPhone, yes. Open More → Siri Shortcuts and add the phrases you want. You can then say things like “Hey Siri, start a feed” to begin a timer or log a diaper without unlocking your phone, which is useful at 3am with a baby in your arms.
You can also tell Koa in the chat what happened in plain language (“fed 120ml at 4”), and it will create the entry for you.
Is there an Apple Watch app?
Yes. The watch app lets you start and stop timers and log a diaper straight from your wrist, and complications show your baby’s last feed or sleep on the watch face. It syncs with your phone automatically.
Can Koa remind me when the next feed is due?
Yes. Go to Settings → Reminders and turn on reminders for feeding, sleep, pumping, diapers or activity. You can set them to repeat at a fixed time each day, or to fire a set interval after your last log.
Reminders are notifications on your own device, so they work whether or not you’re online.
Koa, insights & reports
Chatting with Koa, charts, and reports for your doctor
What is Koa chat?
Koa is the assistant built into the app. It can answer questions about your baby using what you’ve logged (“how much has she slept today?”, “is this diaper count normal?”), and it can log things for you when you describe them.
Koa is there for reassurance and for making sense of your data. It is not a medical professional, and it will tell you when something is worth raising with yours.
Should I rely on Koa’s answers for medical decisions?
No. Koa offers general guidance based on your logs and common newborn patterns. It cannot examine your baby and it does not know your full history.
If you’re worried about feeding, weight, breathing, a temperature or anything that feels wrong, contact your doctor, midwife or child health nurse. Trust your instincts over any app.
How do the charts and reports work?
Open the Timeline tab and pick Reports. It turns your logs into charts, one category at a time: sleep totals and patterns, feeding volumes and intervals, diaper counts, pumping output, and weight, height and head circumference against WHO reference curves.
They fill in as you log. A couple of days gives you daily totals; a week or two is enough for Koa to point out trends.
Can I share a summary with my doctor?
Yes. From the Medical hub you can generate a doctor report: a clean summary of feeding, sleep, growth, symptoms, medicines and immunizations over a date range you choose.
It’s designed to be handed over at an appointment, so you don’t have to remember everything from the last six weeks.
Family sharing
Inviting a partner or carer, and controlling what they see
How do I share with my partner or a carer?
Open More → Family sharing and create an invite. The other person scans the QR code with their phone, or types the PIN into Koa on their device.
Once they join, new logs sync between phones when both are online. There’s no limit to how many people you can add, and members never pay.
Can I control what a family member sees?
Yes. Each member has their own permissions across 13 areas: feeding, sleep, diapers, pumping, activity, growth, temperature, medicine, health, milestones, medical records, Koa chat and doctor reports.
Set each area to full access, view-only, or hidden. A nursery worker might get feeding and diapers only, while your partner gets everything.
How do I remove someone from my family?
In More → Family sharing, tap the member and remove them. They lose access to your baby’s data immediately and their copy stops syncing.
Anything they logged while they were a member stays in your history.
How long does an invite stay valid?
Invites are short-lived by design, so generate one when the other person is ready to join. If it expires before they use it, just create a new one from the Family sharing screen.
Account, data & settings
Sign-in, privacy, offline use, units and notifications
Can I use Koa without an internet connection?
Yes. Everything you log is saved on your phone first, so you can keep tracking on a plane, in a hospital basement, wherever. When you’re back online, Koa syncs in the background and shares your entries with your family automatically. You don’t need to do anything.
Reading back works offline too, for about the last year. Growth, health, medicine and temperature records are always kept on your phone however old they are, so the growth charts and the doctor report work anywhere.
Older feeds, sleeps and diapers are stored safely on the server and load when you scroll back to them, which needs a connection the first time. After that they stay on your phone for a while, so the same stretch opens offline again.
What happens to my data if I change phones?
Sign in on the new phone with the same account and your history downloads automatically. Nothing needs exporting first.
This is the main reason to sign in rather than use Koa anonymously. An account is what makes your data recoverable.
Who can see my baby’s data?
Only you and the people you explicitly invite to your family. Your data is scoped to your account at the database level, not just hidden in the app.
We don’t sell your data or use it for advertising.
How do I delete my account and data?
Go to Settings → Your data → Delete my account. This removes your profile, your children’s records and everything logged under your account, and family members lose access straight away.
Account deletion cannot be undone. If you only want to stop using Koa for now, signing out leaves your data intact. You can also take a copy first with Settings → Your data → Export my data.
Can I change units, time format or dark mode?
Yes, all in Settings. Switch between metric (cm/kg/ml) and imperial (in/lb/oz), °C and °F, 12- and 24-hour time, and light, dark or system theme.
Dark mode is worth turning on for night feeds, since it keeps the screen from waking everyone up.
How does Koa decide what counts as night sleep?
Sleep is split into day and night using a cut-off you control. Set the window in Settings → Day and night, and Koa recalculates your charts to match your household’s routine.
What happens when I travel to a different timezone?
Every entry is stored as the exact moment it happened, so nothing you have logged ever changes. Only the way times are shown follows you.
By default the app uses your phone’s clock, so when you land somewhere new your times shift to local time automatically. If you would rather always read times on your baby’s clock, go to Settings → Display times and choose Baby time.
The baby’s time zone is set in their profile by the family owner, so everyone in the family can choose to read the same clock even when you are in different countries.
How do I set my baby’s time zone?
Open the baby’s profile and tap Time zone. Only the family owner can change it, and Koa asks you to confirm first.
Changing it never edits your existing entries. It only changes how times, dates and daily summaries are shown to anyone reading on Baby time.
I still need help. How do I contact you?
Go to More → Help and support and send us a message. You can attach screenshots, which usually gets to the bottom of things much faster.
If you have an idea rather than a problem, More → How can we improve? goes straight to the team.
